reminds me of what I have heard of the old soviet union.... you had one opinion with people you THOUGHT you could trust and one opinion to everyone else....and your own children might rat you out.
when I was a BORG drone, I was supprized to learn that more then half of the congregations I attended were non-baptized near beer JWs... they all had their reasons for not taking the final plunge, but were basically standing around waiting for something real to shake them up and make them a true believer... the were more in then out, but just enough out to jump ship without losing friends.... one of the biggest issues was the door to door. if JWs ditched that their numbers might double over night.

one conspiracy theory is that Hitler was chosen to play his role, so killing him would only mean finding another to take

That's interesting Zen - in what way could you account yourself alive because of the war?
both my parents are europeans who met in NJ after WWII and had it been otherwise, like no hitler, no war... the chances are my parents
would have stayed in europe or at least not come when they did and possibly never meet... there were quite a few displaced people who ended up in the US and elsewhere because of the war and I believe that many of their children would not have been born if they were similar mixings of peoples like my mom and dad who came from two seperate countries

from my recollections, Russell was just another cultish leader type who really did not drive things with an iron fist, but more with a charismatic CONviction.... under him, the congregations were free to vote for whomever among them had a good report and they were allowed to believe differently than home office....er,...
and then Rutherford essentially stole the show, kicked out the hand picked successors and built his legacy empire.... so Rutherford deserves the most corrupt title, hands down.
Russell would likely have been just a vague name if remembered at all were it not for the Judge.

if time travel were possible and you could do such a thing, would it be morally right to go back and
alter the deaths of those now dead and sacrifice those who came into existance because of the war?

Do conflicts/arguments strengthen friendships/relationships ?
by JH ini think that conflicts do strengthen friendships or relationships.
it sets boundary lines and defines what's acceptable from what's not acceptable.
naturally it will strengthen the friendship or relationship as long as both respect the boundary line of the other one.. or, maybe conflicts mean that things aren't going right and the relationship/friendship isn't going good, and that the tolerance level has become very low, and arguments errupt for little nothings.... .

passionate people often have passionate arguements and passionate love making as well... there is a definite connection
where as very logical and rational people may avoid conflict and as a direct result they have no passion to keep the relationship when things go bad, they just walk away from it, logically,

not all JWs exhibt the "cult" mentality, but I started to get worried when my high school friend and "father" in the "troof" told me that if the word came from the governing body, that this is it! the long awaited end is here! go out and slaughter all the opposers! that he would do it without hesitation!
I was saying to him, but how could they ever say such a thing which would contradict their biblical mandate?
he seemed to believe that even thought they were not inspired, their being spirit directed made such possible and would have to be followed without question.
years later near my end with the B.Org. 3 different elders on three different occations gave me the same mind numbing answers--
I asked, what if you find something you disagree with the GB? what do you do, how do you handle it?, do you write them? do you just hope they will change it? alll three replied in 4th dimensional harmony
I would NEVER presume to know more than the governing body! NEVER? did not seem to make them nervous that the GB admitted being fallible and JUST men one bit....NEVER!
